Why We’re Here
Millions of women around the world are walking away from their faith communities. Not because they stopped believing in something bigger than themselves.
But because the spaces that were supposed to hold them spiritually failed them. Shrank them. Silenced them. Told them their worth was conditional on their obedience.
And when they leave, they lose everything. Not just their beliefs. Their friendships. Their families. Their identity. Their entire support system. In some communities, their safety.
The Girl+God Foundation
Girl+God is a global organization for women in spiritual transition.
We exist for the women who left their faith community but didn't leave God. The women who stayed but feel like strangers in their own faith. The women who were never inside a religious institution but have always felt something sacred calling them. The women who were told they were too much. Too loud. Too questioning. Too free.
We are building a world where no woman has to choose between her faith and her freedom.
Where spiritual homelessness is no longer a silent epidemic.
Where women have community, resources, healing, and support no matter where they are on their spiritual journey.
The Vision
We believe that the spiritual displacement of women is one of the most underserved crises of our time. It sits at the intersection of mental health, gender equity, human rights, and faith. And it has been invisible for too long.
Why this matters:
40 million Americans have left organized religion in the past 25 years. Women are disproportionately affected by the psychological and social aftermath. Religious trauma is now recognized by mental health professionals as a legitimate form of complex trauma. Women who leave high-control religious environments experience rates of depression, anxiety, and PTSD comparable to survivors of domestic abuse. Globally, women in religiously conservative societies face violence, ostracism, and legal consequences for questioning or leaving their faith.
There is no major global organization dedicated to this crisis. Girl+God is here to change that.
